At Beaver Foundation, we believe that a healthy smile is a gateway to overall well-being. In partnership with the Gender Unit of Lands Commission Ghana, we organized a transformative Dental Health Outreach Program from Tuesday, 29th to Thursday, 31st October 2024, at the Lands Commission Office, Cantonments-Accra.

This initiative, supported by Beaver Dental, aimed to provide accessible dental screenings, oral hygiene education, and essential health services to the dedicated staff of the Lands Commission. By integrating a gender-sensitive approach, we ensured that all employees felt included and supported in their healthcare journey.

A Vision for Better Dental Health

The outreach event was more than just a check-up-it was a call to action for better oral health. Our primary objectives were to:

- Provide free on-site dental screenings and basic treatments

- Raise awareness about the importance of dental hygiene and its role in general health

- Address barriers to accessing quality dental care

- Foster an inclusive wellness environment within the workplace

A Three-Day Impactful Experience

Throughout the event, staff members participated in a variety of health-promoting activities:

1. Dental Screenings & Services

- Our skilled dental professionals performed thorough check-ups and general mouth cleanings.

- Each participant received a personalized dental health report and referrals for further treatment if necessary.

2. Educational Sessions

- Short interactive sessions were conducted on oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and the link between dental and overall health.

- Tailored discussions addressed specific concerns raised by participants.

3. Counselling & Resource Distribution

- Participants received dental hygiene kits, including toothbrushes, floss, and educational materials with daily care tips.

‍

4. Comprehensive Health Screenings

- In collaboration with Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s chemical pathology team, we offered blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI, and organ functioning tests.

- Additional teams provided eye and breast screenings, making this event a holistic wellness initiative.

The Results

- 52 consultations were conducted, with 45 members completing a professional scale and polish procedure.

- Increased awareness of oral health’s role in general wellness, with many participants committing to improved oral care routines.

- The Gender Unit’s involvement created a safe and inclusive space for discussions on gender-specific health concerns.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next?

- Quarterly or Biannual Dental Outreach Events with the Lands Commission to maintain continuous support.

- Stronger collaboration with the Gender Unit to create targeted health workshops.

The dental health outreach program was an incredible step forward in promoting workplace wellness and advancing corporate social responsibility. Our collaboration with Lands Commission Ghana underscored the power of accessible healthcare and highlighted the importance of a gender-sensitive approach.
